The German Consulates are very helpful in getting information about anything concerning Germany (travel, politics, laws ...) They're very thorough and supply lots of information in response to requests. Among other things: Info about quarantine questions (importing pets), all German phonebooks available business/government directories registries of names and contact addresses of German citizens in foreign countries (one has to register oneself upon arrival).
